I have two small children and — as much as I would like to do so — my budget does not allow me to put aside anything into a college fund. Many of my friends are able to do this and I believe it is valuable, but right now in our lives, we need to worry about feeding the kids. We’ll worry about college later.

This may seem irresponsible or flippant to some, but I’m not too worried about it. Both me and my husband have college degrees that were only possible by taking out Student Loans.

We were able to quickly pay off our College Loans, even though they had the lowest interest rate out of all of our debts.

The world has changed and with many people in the same boat as us, struggling through the poor economy, saving money for college is just not an option. But that doesn’t rule college out. For my kids, they are going to be raised the same way I did — never doubting that college comes right after high school. I honestly didn’t know it could happen any other way.

Luckily there are many Private Student Loans out there.

We know that we will be taking advantage of them a few years down the road. And, while sure, it would be nice to have a windfall or win the lottery so I can pay outright for their college expenses, I know this is not an option, so I know to some extent I will be relying on student loans.
